Step 1: Remove this
Step 2: Add this
Step 3: Add this
Step 4: Add (more of) this
Step 5: Profit

I see Jay Leno more as a lone wolf. Jay Leno TG would probably get insufferable PDQ. Not to mention 2 Yanks on a BBC show probably isn’t going to help them at home.

Why do I just want to bitch slap Chris Evans? He has such a I wanna be bitch slapped face.

That sound terrible. Having a multi millionaire car collector was a bad idea. Adding two more is even worse.

I think they were hesitant to take James May directly into the mix at first and gave him a lot of little solo spots - a similar approach could work with Jay. If he does turn out to play well with others, bring him into the studio, if not, keep him as the field correspondent. You’re right about the risks of excessive Americanization, though.

How to fix Top Gear:
Fire Jordan, Evans, and the (unfortunately underwhelming) Rory Reid
Hire these guys
EDIT: I got my Chris’ mixed up. Keep Harris, Fire Evans

They don’t need to add anything. Just remove a Chris and replace him with the other Chris

Step 2: Turn on TGT (Some time in the fall)

I often wish they’d let May loose more often with his technical explanations. But tbh those probably aren’t the feelings of the majority.

Jerry Seinfeld actually kind of reminds me of Jeremy Clarkson. I mean sure, he’s a lot less outspoken (in many ways), but he’s a guy with a good amount of money who really likes cars. They’re both fairly sarcastic, just to different degrees.
Do you think either of them wrench on their own cars? No, they pay people to do it, which is why Jeremy’s roadside bodge jobs were always so hilarious. Seeing Jerry Seinfeld out in the middle of nowhere, miserable with no A/C and getting dirt on his nice clean sneakers would be incredible.
e: the same goes for Jay, but he seems to be more hands-on.

Really, I think it only requires step 1.
Matt’s segments have only been getting better— the Rolls bit? Pretty darn good, I thought.
I’ve also really liked Rory’s Tesla film, everything Harrismonkey’s done, and while I’m not super enthusiastic about Sabine’s parts yet, I think she’s a good addition to the show, and maybe will improve.
Eddie Jordan’s parts, meh, who cares. Have him on once in a while, whatever. Don’t give him too much screen time and it’s a wash.

Still though, Eddie Jordan is hilarious and has tons of personality. And how is Rory underwhelming?

In other words: Remove unfunny celebrity who has a cool car collection but little experience with reviewing cars, add two other unfunny celebrities with cool car collections. Keep experienced motoring journalist and race car driver that happens to be entertaining.
Someone at the BBC please lure Harry Metcalfe away from JLR already.

There are some people working on a new show at Amazon who I think would make
amazing
Top Gear hosts.

What if they just hired the other Chris Evans?

I second this actually, Matt’s a decent host, Rory does darned well, harris obviously a winner. Sabine im both yes and no about. Jordan, eh not sure about him yet. Evans still annoy me tho

I always though US Top Gear should have had Jay Leno, Tim Allen, and Christopher Titus. Plus Jerry Seinfield in for good measure.

I always thought Stacey David would have made a good May-like host, and Jessi Combs, though that all may bring too much actual intelligence to the show, and cut back on the tomfoolery.
![]() 06/29/2016 at 15:08 |

Those two would make a great pair for an American Version of the James May engineering show. Jessi is a pretty funny and knowledgeable person, and Stacy is extremely good at making complex projects look simple.
I don’t think they be a good fit for a driving show like Top Gear. They are great at showing you how to do mechanical things.
I think Jay Leno would be good for the James May explanations, since he was a mechanic before comedian. Tim Allen would be good for filling in for Jezzas style of driving and jokes. Titus would be a SoCal version of Hamster. Jerry would be good to tie them all together.

As much as I like Leno, I don’t think he’d be a good fit for Top Gear. He’s too much of a rich guy now, and seems like he wouldn’t be up for some of the roadtrip shenanigans Top Gear is famous for.
Tim Allen, sure.
And Titus, don’t much care for him.
